You Do Not Fertilize A Rosebush With Rose Water...

Well, it's true... When it comes time to fertilize your beautiful roses, are you reaching for rose water or grabbing the smelly stuff, the fertilizer...

I think this is an interesting metaphor for life, or at least it is for me. Roses came to mind since they are so beautful and smell so sweet. But when it comes time to feed them, it's not the sweet stuff that gets the job done, its the acid and it's the smelly fertilizer (that comes from you know where). So, I thought about that and it reminded me of life. What makes us stronger??

Life can be a struggle and when you're faced with challenges, it can seem overwhelming sometimes. And sometimes you find yourself in a mental abyss. In fact, sometimes it may seem like you can't climb out of that abyss. Maybe you have family issues, maybe health issues, maybe relationship issues or you are simply caught up in a depression. Life can feel hopeless sometimes...

When you hit that bottom, how do you talk to yourself? Are you beating yourself up even more for being down, or are you recognizing that "this too shall pass?" Are you being gentle with yourself and giving yourself a chance to rest, to heal, to get support?

Maybe the next time you feel a mental storm coming on, you can think of the rosebush. What makes it stronger is not the "sweet smelling rose water" but literally the crap! And even though none of us ever want to have feel depressed or overwhelmed, it's those times in our life where we face adversity, sadness, depression or challenges that shape us. If you reach out to others for support, if you treat yourself with respect and good self-care when you are down, then when you come out of the darkness, you will usually be stronger for it. You will have learned something, even through the pain.

But I do want to say that sometimes you really need to seek extra help. So, if you find that you can't seem to climb of your abyss, please don't isolate. Please reach out and seek professional help and support. :-)

That's it for now...
